Jerome Obi Eta, Cameroon’s Minister of Works, Class of ‘53

Jerome Obi Eta, Cameroonian Engineer and public servant, born on October 10, 1940 in Mamfe, Southern Cameroon, attended the Government College Umuahia from 1953- 1960. He obtained the WASC in 1958 and the HSC at Umuahia in 1960. Thereafter, he studied Engineering in Canada, at the Mount Allisson University in Sackville, New Brunswick, and the Queens University, Kingston, Ontario, and at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, in the UK. He worked first as a young Engineer at the Public Works department in Bamenda from 1966, and later at the Cameroon Ministry of Equipment, Town Planning and Housing where he rose to become the Inspector General of the Cameroon Ministry of Public Works and Transport. He was appointed Cameroon’s minister of Works from December from 1997-2002. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation (Camwater) from 2006-2018. He is currently retired in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
