Dear GCU Old Boys,
We are pleased to share encouraging developments regarding the ongoing relationship between the Fisher Educational Development Trust, the Office of the Governor H.E Alex Otti and the Abia State Government.
Recent meetings between the Board of Trustees, FEDT and the Governor have reaffirmed a shared commitment to the mission and future of GCU.
The Governor has demonstrated his continued support in several impactful ways:
- Trustee Nominations: In a show of support, the Governor has recently nominated new trustees to our governing board—individuals who are aligned with our mission and deeply invested in the values that define our community. Individuals whose vision aligns with our commitment to academic excellence and institutional integrity. (Trustee Profiles to be published soon)
- Land Use and Certification: The state has formally recertified our certificate of occupancy for all GCU-owned lands, ensuring uninterrupted use and institutional stability.
- Support for Infrastructure Efforts:In a tangible show of partnership, the Governor has pledged the support of the state’s Direct Labor Force Organization to assist with our perimeter fencing initiative – enhancing campus security and infrastructure at no additional cost to the institution.
- Public Endorsements of Our Independence: Additionally, at a recent press conference, the Governor publicly reiterated his strong support for the school’s mission, emphasizing both the independence of the governing board and the school’s status as a privately managed and funded institution. This clear stance reinforces the importance of preserving the integrity of our educational model and protecting the unique character of our institution. (See Video)
